Witness Support Services helps witnesses better manage their emotions, which can empower them to testify more accurately, credibly, and consistently.
Giving evidence, especially in a formal proceeding, can be intimidating. That intimidation causes some individuals to “go blank,” to “want to please instead of recounting facts,” and/or to otherwise give unreliable evidence. These behaviors often result from inadequate emotional regulation of a stressful experience.
Emotional regulation, however, is a skill that can be taught. The witness support services that I provide are educational in nature. Witnesses are taught about managing their emotions while testifying so the act of testifying is more comfortable, and they can testify more accurately. In particular, I provide witnesses with information and skills training to help them enhance their emotional regulation and coping skills when testifying.
